Brooches and Fibulae

Brooches and Fibulae

Explore antique and vintage fibulae and brooches from North Africa and other ethnographic jewellery traditions. Fibulae were both functional dress fasteners and important ornaments, often carrying regional, tribal and symbolic meaning. Arkandis' selection includes Moroccan and Algerian silver fibulae, including examples associated with the Aurès, Ghardaïa and other Berber regions.

Each piece is individually examined and described with attention to casting, engraving, silverwork, patina, condition and cultural context. These historic ornaments are especially interesting to collectors of Berber jewellery, traditional costume and ethnographic metalwork, while many can also be worn today as distinctive brooches or pendants.
