Silver Fibula from Algeria Chaouia People
This beautiful silver fibula was worn by a woman from the Chaoui tribe in the Aurès Mountains in Algeria.
The centre of this fibula is decorated with granulations in the shape of a flower. This fibula is a rare example which is very difficult to find today: silver jewellery was often melted down to make new jewellery for "new" fashions. A hole at the bottom of the piece was used to connect the two fibulae of the woman's dress.
The fibula was worn as a brooch or as a pin to attach a cape to a dress.
This jewel is ancient. It was brought to France from Algeria and is in a private collection.
Condition: The piece is in good condition, with no missing parts or repairs.
