Vintage Mexican Taxco Sterling Silver Mesh Choker – Mid-Century Modernist Necklace
An elegant and sculptural vintage Mexican sterling silver collar necklace, entirely constructed from interconnected silver rings forming a wide, supple mesh.
The intricate openwork creates an almost textile-like surface: substantial in silver yet visually light and remarkably fluid. The necklace gradually widens toward the front, allowing the mesh to follow the neckline naturally.
With its clean geometry and absence of applied ornament, the design has a strong mid-century modernist character, relying entirely on the rhythm of the handmade silver links and the play of light across their surfaces.
At 87 grams, this is a substantial piece of Mexican silver jewelry, yet its articulated construction makes it comfortable and flexible when worn.

Origin & Dating
Mexico, Taxco
Mid-20th century, circa 1950s–1970s
The numbered eagle assay mark is particularly useful for dating the piece. Mexico introduced this system in 1948, and it remained in use until it was replaced by the later letter-and-number registration system around 1979–1980.
The combination of the HECHO EN MEXICO, 0.925 and numbered eagle marks therefore supports a mid-20th-century dating.
The workmanship and style are consistent with the important Mexican silver-jewelry tradition associated with Taxco, although the unidentified workshop mark prevents a definitive maker attribution.
Condition
Very good vintage condition.
The silver displays light surface wear and patina consistent with age and use. The complex mesh remains supple and appears well preserved.
The click clasp functions perfectly and closes securely.
Wearing & Display
A highly wearable example of Mexican modernist silver jewelry.
Its broad mesh forms an elegant luminous collar around the neck, while the articulated links give the necklace movement and flexibility. The restrained design makes it particularly effective with simple contemporary clothing.
It can equally be appreciated as a collectible example of mid-century Mexican silver craftsmanship.
