Antique Moroccan Silver Bangle – Ram’s Head Hallmark – Early 20th Century
A substantial antique Moroccan silver bangle, dating from the first half of the 20th century.
The bracelet has a beautifully simple construction, decorated with a continuous series of hand-incised diagonal lines. Their slight irregularity reveals the handmade nature of the work.
Particularly appealing is the surface of the silver, which has been softened by prolonged wear. Some of the engraved lines have become faint or partially erased, giving the bracelet the smooth, tactile character that develops only through years of use.
The interior bears the Moroccan Ram’s Head (Tête de Bélier) guarantee hallmark. Introduced within the Moroccan precious-metal control system in 1925, this hallmark guarantees silver of at least 800/1000 fineness (80% silver) and establishes a terminus post quem for the bracelet: it cannot predate 1925.
With its restrained decoration, substantial 56-gram weight and beautifully worn surface, this is a particularly authentic example of traditional Moroccan silver jewelry.

Origin & Dating
Origin: Morocco
Period: First half of the 20th century, after 1925
Hallmark: Ram’s Head / Tête de Bélier
Guaranteed silver fineness: minimum 800/1000
The Ram’s Head hallmark provides an important chronological indication. As this Moroccan silver guarantee mark was introduced in 1925, the bracelet must have been manufactured after that date.
Its construction, decoration and extensive evidence of prolonged wear are consistent with a probable date in the second quarter of the 20th century.
Condition
Good antique condition with extensive and attractive evidence of previous wear.
The surface of the silver has become noticeably smooth through prolonged use. The incised decoration is considerably softened in places and some lines are partially worn away.
Fine scratches, rubbing, small marks and surface irregularities are visible throughout. These are consistent with the age and history of the bracelet and contribute significantly to its character.
The Ram’s Head hallmark remains visible on the interior.
Wearing & Collection
This is a closed bangle and does not open. The hand must therefore pass through the bracelet.
For fit, compare its 6 cm inner diameter and approximately 18.5 cm inner circumference with a closed bangle that already fits comfortably.
Its restrained geometric decoration makes it particularly easy to wear today, either alone or combined with other silver bracelets. The pronounced wear and original hallmark also make it an appealing piece for a collection of North African and Moroccan jewelry.
