Antique Gujarati Silver Kada Bracelet – Saurashtra, India
An impressive antique Kada bracelet from Gujarat, western India, associated with the traditional jewelry of the Saurashtra region. This type of substantial bangle is also encountered under names such as Kadla or Kadiya, with terminology varying according to region and community.
Made from high-quality silver, the bracelet has a remarkable sculptural form: broad and rounded on the exterior, with a narrower curved section around the inner opening. Its almost architectural construction gives the piece considerable presence despite the complete absence of surface decoration.
The bracelet is hollow but exceptionally substantial, weighing 367 grams.
It is constructed from two interlocking sections, which fit together and are secured by a screw. The seams and fastening mechanism remain clearly visible and are an integral part of its traditional construction.

Condition
Good antique condition with extensive signs of age and traditional use.
The silver surface shows scratches, rubbing, oxidation, patination and irregularities. The interior retains considerably darker oxidation and deposits.
The seams of the hollow construction are visible, as is the screw mechanism joining the two sections. These construction details have been left untouched.
The bracelet has not been over-polished, preserving much of its aged surface and character.

The two-part construction allows the bracelet to be opened rather than passed over the hand. With a 6.6 cm largest inner diameter and approximately 22 cm inner circumference, its fit should be compared carefully with a bracelet that already fits comfortably.
