Pair of anklets from Kabilia region of Algeria
This pair of anklets is antique, late 19th century. The anklet is an open ring ending in a snake head at each end. The ring is decorated with an engraving resembling snake scales.
These anklets were worn in conjunction with a much larger ring, as can be seen in the old photographs accompanying this note.
Condition: Good. These anklets have been worn; the motifs on the ring are partially faded.
Reference: A Kabile anklet of this model can be found in the collections of the "Musée Ethnographique du Quai Branly" (Ethnographic Museum) in Paris under inventory no. 71.1903.60.1.
