Vintage Venetian Chevron Bead Necklace – African Trade Beads
A striking necklace composed of 23 vintage Venetian chevron glass beads, graduated from smaller beads near the clasp to larger beads at the centre.
Chevron beads were produced in Venice for export and trade, particularly to Africa, where they became highly valued exchange and decorative beads. Examples of this type circulated widely in Central Africa, including regions of present-day Cameroon and Congo.
This necklace is probably composed of mid-20th-century beads.
