Chinese Art Deco Butterfly Amulet Necklace – Silver, Enamel & Stone Beads
Striking Chinese Art Deco necklace, dating from the Republic period, circa 1930s–1940s.
The centerpiece is a large hollow butterfly-shaped silver amulet box, decorated with blue, turquoise-green and yellow enamel. The butterfly is an auspicious Chinese motif associated with happiness, love and longevity. Its box-like construction also recalls the Chinese tradition of protective lock amulets.
The pendant is combined with warm cream, peach and pink carnelian/agate beads, contrasted with lapis lazuli and turquoise-coloured beads. Two large agate beads are framed by small blue enamelled caps.

Condition
Good vintage condition with considerable character. The butterfly shows several dents, surface wear and some losses to the enamel. The clasp functions correctly. Please refer to the photographs for condition details.
