An exceptional necklace composed of ancient Baltic amber beads, traditionally attributed to the 1st–7th century BC.

The beads range from deep reddish brown to very dark brown, with irregular shapes and strongly weathered surfaces. Their cracks, erosion, surface alteration and variations in transparency give the group the unmistakable character of very old material.

The beads are of different sizes and forms, with the largest focal bead measuring approximately 1.5 cm.

The necklace has been recently restrung to preserve and present the ancient beads, and fitted with a modern silver clasp.

This is first and foremost a collector's archaeological object. Although it can be worn with great care, the amber is extremely old and should be treated as fragile historical material rather than as everyday jewelry.

The dating is an attribution. In the absence of documented archaeological excavation records accompanying the necklace, the precise archaeological context and date cannot be independently established.

Condition

Archaeological condition.

The beads show extensive age-related alteration, including surface erosion, craquelure, abrasion, small losses, irregularities and areas of darkened or opaque amber.

These characteristics are clearly visible in the photographs and form an integral part of the historical character of the piece.

Conservation & Wearing

Please handle with particular care. Ancient amber can become brittle with age and is sensitive to impact, friction, heat and chemicals.

This necklace is best considered a collector's object. Occasional careful wear is possible, but frequent or everyday wear is not recommended.

Avoid perfume, cosmetics, alcohol, cleaning products, prolonged sunlight and sudden temperature changes. Store flat and separately from harder jewelry.

Provenance Note

The necklace is composed of ancient beads that have been recently restrung. The silver clasp is modern and should not be considered part of the archaeological material.
