Alfredo Villasana Sterling Silver Bracelet – Taxco, Mexico
A striking vintage sterling silver bracelet by Alfredo Villasana, made in Taxco, Mexico.
The bracelet has an unusual sculptural construction composed of two articulated sections joined by a hinge. The two sections overlap to a greater or lesser extent according to the size of the wrist, creating a bold layered composition.
The design is particularly distinctive: sweeping crescent-shaped elements are decorated with graduated polished silver domes, framed by strong smooth borders and punctuated by rounded terminals. Darker oxidized areas emphasize the relief and give depth to the design.
A substantial yet elegant example of Mexican modernist silver jewelry, combining strong geometry with a remarkably fluid construction.
The bracelet is signed and marked:

Origin & Dating
Maker: Alfredo Villasana
Origin: Taxco, Mexico
Period: 20th century, vintage
Material: Sterling silver 925
Taxco developed into one of the major centers of modern Mexican silversmithing during the 20th century, producing jewelry characterized by strong sculptural forms and highly accomplished silverwork.
This bracelet is a particularly expressive example of that tradition, with its large crescent forms, graduated silver spheres and articulated construction.
Condition
Very good vintage condition.
The surface shows fine scratches, rubbing and natural patination consistent with age and previous wear. Darker oxidation remains in recessed areas and enhances the sculptural decoration.
The hinge and articulated construction are functional.
The silver has not been excessively polished, preserving the character of the piece.
Wearing & Collection
The hinged construction allows the two sections to overlap to varying degrees, giving some flexibility in fit.
With an approximate inner circumference of 20 cm, it has a relatively generous fit, although the sculptural form should be taken into account. Comparing the measurements with a bracelet that already fits comfortably is recommended.
Its dramatic construction makes it equally interesting as a wearable statement bracelet or as a collectible example of 20th-century Mexican silver design.
